Russ of Saratoga Springs, Utah is training for his first sprint triathlon and is participating in the 18 week training program. Russ started from scratch with a limited background in endurance sports. He started swimming and could barely swim 100 meters without stopping. After 6 weeks, he dropped his 400 meter swim time by 5 minutes. In the same period of time, he improved his run speed from 6 mph (about a 9 and a half minute mile) to 7.3 (about a 8 min mile), while also tripling his distances. Nice work. Unfortunately, his first race was going well but ended early due to a sharp turn and some gravel that ended up in a minor accident. Regardless, nice work Russ.
